United Nations Tour Guides celebrate 60th Anniversary
The guided tours of the UN Headquarters started in November 1952 with a staff of only ten guides. An exhibit and a social event will take place in November to celebrate the contribution of the guides to the work of the Organization for the past 60 years. The UN Postal Administration launched a new personalized stamp sheet for the occasion, on sale at the personalized stamp shop in the Visitors Lobby and the purchase of a guided tour ticket will secure a 10% discount on the stamps. The Future We Want: Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development
Rio+20 is a chance to move away from business-as-usual and to act to end poverty while promoting clean energy and a more sustainable and fair use of resources, to address environmental destruction and build a bridge to the future. The Conference will take place in Rio de Janeiro, 20-22 June 2012, the discussions will focus on two main themes: 1) how to build a green economy to achieve sustainable development and lift people out of poverty, including support for developing countries; 2) how to improve international coordination for sustainable development. Governments are expected to adopt clear and focused practical measures for implementing sustainable development, based on the many examples of success we have seen over the last 20 years.
