Briefings

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CURRENTLY ARE NOT ACCEPTING NEW REQUESTS FOR BRIEFINGS. PLEASE CHECK BACK AFTER 1 SEPTEMBER 2019 FOR AN UPDATE.

Details about Briefings

Groups of 20 or more participants taking a guided tour can also request a briefing from a UN expert on a range of topics, from peacekeeping and human rights to the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as a general overview of the work of the Organization and its history. The UN Speakers’ Bureau can also facilitate outside speaking engagements and videoconferences.

In-house Briefings

  • Briefings are appropriate for a range of groups, including students (high school and above), educators, civic and business leaders, NGOs, etc. and are available only in combination with a guided tour.

  • Please request your briefing a minimum of 6 weeks in advance.

  • Briefings at UN Headquarters are available on weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • For every 20 people, there is an administrative fee of $40.00 per day, payable the day of your briefing by exact cash or a check made out to “United Nations Guided Tours Unit”.

  • For larger groups, audio-video equipment and technical assistance may be required, and costs may apply. For groups of more than 100 participants, a UN Security fee may apply.

  • If you wish to arrange a briefing with a Member State of the United Nations or a Permanent Observer, please contact the Permanent Mission directly.

  • While we make every effort to accommodate your requests, briefing arrangements are subject to change or cancelation in case of unforeseen events.

Outside Speaking Engagements

  • Request a United Nations expert to speak at your location or school on a range of UN topics.

  • Please request your briefing a minimum of 8 weeks in advance.

  • Generally, a minimum of 100 participants is required (unless UN4U, see below).

  • While UN speakers may not accept honoraria, the inviting organization covers the speaker’s travel, terminal expenses, lodging and hospitality costs, if applicable.

    What is UN4U?
    • UN4U engages youth to take an interest in global issues by providing UN officials to visit high schools. Through UN4U, expert speakers travel to your school in New York City (all five boroughs) and the Tri-State area to share their knowledge of the United Nations and a range of specialized topics.

Briefings via Video-Conference/Skype

  • If you are unable to visit UN Headquarters or to host a speaker, we can connect you to a speaker via VTC or Skype.

  • Requests must be made a minimum of 8 weeks in advance.

  • Costs apply for the use of VTC equipment.
